Largs Lifeboat paged at 20:38 on 20/10/09
largs lifeboat launched to a report of a vessel aground at the end of the Noddle burn which is roughly 400 meters North of the Lifeboat Station. The Lifeboat launched and arrived onscene within 1 minute to find a rib with 3 persons on board aground by the rear, on the large stones that had been placed to cover and protect the outflow pipe of the Old Sewage plant.
A member of the Lifeboat crew waded in to check on the crew and intially was told that none of the crew were injured apart froma couple of bruises, as the tide was flooding it was deemed safest to stand by the vessel and wait for the water level to rise sufficiently to allow for the vessel to be pulled free.
Whilst waiting on the tide to come in it was agreed that 2 of the crew would be transferred to another vessel which was standing by, whilst doing this one of the crew stated that he was suffering from sore ribs at this point the Helmsman of the lifeboat suggested that it would be best if he was transferred to shore to be checked out by an ambulance, the other person also went to be checked out.
After approx 40 mins the sea level had risen enough to allow the vessel to be pulled off the rocks and pulled into deeper water where the engines and bilges were checked for any water ingress or damage, after the crew were happy that no water was coming in the vessel proceeded back under its own propulsion to the ship it had left, whilst this was happening Largs Lifeboat returned to the Boathouse to pick up the 2 crew previously taken ashore to be checked and then returned them to the other vessel.
Largs Lifeboat then departed the scene and returned to station where it was made ready for the next service call. |
