Largs Lifeboat paged at 18:00 on 26/09/09

Largs Lifeboat requested to launch to assist a 24ft cabin cruiser which had gone aground near Keppel Pier Great Cumbrae, Once onscene it was found that the vessel had suffered engine failure close inshore and had drifted onto the rocky shore, the owner of the vessel had managed to get all of the occupants off the vessel and safely ashore.

It was agreed that Largs Lifeboat would take the vessel under tow back to Largs yacht Haven after they had recovered all of the casualties from the safe hands of Cumbrae Mobile Coastguard.

After a short tow back to the yacht Haven the casualty vessel was secured in its own mooring and the owner who had been in the water went for a shower to warm up.

The Lifeboat returned to station and was made ready for service.

Largs Lifeboat Paged at 19:02 on 15/09/09

Largs Lifeboat requested to launch after a member of the public had contacted Clyde CG via a 999 call stating that he had seen what looked like a paraglider ditch into largs Bay North of Largs boathouse. It turned out to be a person being towed behind a speedboat parasailing and when the speedboat had reduced its speed the parasailor landed in the sea, he was then picked up by the speed boat and returned to shore safely.
The Lifeboat was released and was recovered then made ready for the next service call.

This Service call was treated as a False Alarm with Good Intent

Shortly after the Lifeboat was recovered from Exercise at approx 16:00 on 13/09/09 Clyde Coastguard contacted Largs Boathouse asking if the Lifeboat could re-launch and make best speed Loch Striven where a 40 foot yacht had broken down, Clyde Coastguard were concerned about the experience of the crew and wanted to Largs Lifeboat to give assistance if it was needed.

Whilst on route Clude CG advised Largs Lifeboat that the yacht was now under tow from another vessel but asked if the Lifeboat could still proceed to ascertain if any further assistance was required.

Once onscene the Lifeboat crew and the crew of the other vessel agreed that no further assistance was need from the Lifeboat so it returned to station and was made ready for service.

Largs lifeboat paged at 16:58 on 12/09/09

Largs Lifeboat was requested to launch after the local Coastguard received a call from a member of the public stating that they had seen what appeared to be an explosion on a vessel between Little Cumbrae and Hunterston.
Once launched the Lifeboat made best speed to the reported area, whilst on route further information was passed from the coastguard stating that it was now thought that the explosion was on shore. Once onscene a crew member from the Lifeboat was put ashore where it was found that the caretaker of Little Cumbrae had started a bonfire to dispose of rubbish and whilst the fire was alight they threw what was thought to be an empty fuel canister onto the fire. after appropriate safety advice was given the crew member returned to the Lifeboat which then returned to station and was made ready for the next service call.
